Marcus Lyall & Adam Smith, the show directors for the Chemical Brothers, were developing a visual concept for the track "Keep On" and looking to create a 3D abstract character driven by Mocap.
They approached us to develop a CG character that could be driven with Motion capture supplied by Imaginarium.
The aim was to create a dramatic visual to work as a counterpoint to the bright pink costume design of Kate Tabor that feature in the intro of the video. Something horror, pagan, unusual and modern.
Our approach was to build a set of 3D modelling processes and custom tools allowing us to explore dozens of character iterations in a short space of time.
The result was a dark and disturbing character voicing the bridge and breakdown sections of the track.
The visual and costume design later went on the be displayed in the Design Museum's "Electronic" exhibition about the history of electronic music.
